3 Jyotirlinga in Maharashtra – Tour, Travel Plan, Route Map & Guide
Maharashtra is home to three sacred Jyotirlinga temples dedicated to Lord Shiva – Trimbakeshwar (Nashik), Grishneshwar (near Aurangabad), and Bhimashankar (Pune). Each is one of India’s twelve holy Jyotirlinga shrines. Trimbakeshwar, just 30 km from Nashik city, is especially famous for its Shiva lingam with three faces (Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva). Grishneshwar in Aurangabad district lies only 1.5 km from the Ellora Caves and is revered as the 12th Jyotirlinga. Bhimashankar temple is tucked in the Sahyadri hills of Pune district and houses another of Maharashtra’s Jyotirlingas. These temples draw pilgrims from across India for darshan and blessings, and our Citycabz tour packages cover all three in comfort.
Grishneshwar Jyotirlinga (Verul, Aurangabad): Grishneshwar Temple is an ancient Shiva shrine and one of the twelve Jyotirlinga mandirs in India. It stands in Verul village just 20 km from Daulatabad (Devagiri) fort and 30 km from Aurangabad city. The temple was rebuilt in the 18th century by Maratha queen Ahilyabai Holkar, and today its black stone spire and carved halls welcome devotees. A few minutes’ walk away are the UNESCO World Heritage Ellora Caves (open 6:00 AM–6:00 PM, closed Tuesday, allowing you to combine ancient cave artistry with your Shiva pilgrimage.
Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga (Pune District): Bhimashankar temple in the village of Bhorgiri (Pune district) is nestled in a forested valley of the Western Ghats. This 8th-century Shiva temple is also one of the 12 Jyotirlingas. Its unique lingam and the surrounding Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary (home to rare animals and birds) make it a spiritual as well as nature-rich destination. The temple opens daily around 5:00 AM and closes by about 9:30 PM, and our Citycabz itinerary ensures you arrive early for a peaceful darshan. Legend says Lord Shiva appeared here in his “Bhima” form after defeating demons, making it a must-visit for devotees.
